Finding an apartment
And the good news… (drum roll) I did find my apartment! OK, it is not the dream apartment I had in mind, but still a good one. Finding an apartment in Switzerland is not an easy task. Why? Switzerland is one of Europe’s smallest countries (133rd in the world). Also, much of the land is uninhabitable, because it is either lakes, mountains or forests or is used for farming. You are in the middle of this beautiful country and without a place to live! Land is in short supply and is densely populated. If you would like to live in the “city”, get ready to wait in line to see an apartment along with 50-60 (even more) other “competitors”. The demand is unbelievably high, and the supply is not enough. You can see new construction popping up here and there, and you might think you see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it is not the case! Those buildings that are still under construction are already rented out…
I should confess; if it wasn’t looking for an apartment and getting to know different neighborhoods, I wouldn’t learn the city as fast as I could. I took all the possible buses and trams from one end to the other end of the city.
This was the first weekend that I had a chance to truly enjoy the lake and the sun without checking “Homegate” (the most popular site to find an apartment) for rentals.
Have a great and productive week!
