The New York Times Building
New York always deserves (and gets) the best of all, and here is another one! The new 52-story building between 40th and 41st Streets, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, is a new icon in New York. Piano says his goal was to create a skyscraper that embodies sustainability and craftsmanship. You can watch [...]
Blue Condo, NYC
Architect Bernard Tschumi’s Blue condominium tower located on the Lower East Side, New York. Designed with an original envelope pattern sets the structure apart from surrounding buildings, thus adding a bit of an eclectic attitude to a normally dreary skyline. I guess it looks better in the architect’s rendering
Shades of “off-white”
Yesterday afternoon, I was listening my favorite radio channel, KCRW, and the conversation was about the exterior paint color for Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York which has been under a major restoration project since 2005.
The Bloch Building – 2
In Arkitectrue, I have shared some information about Steven Holl’s design for Bloch Building. Recently, Time magazine published an article, Light at the Museum, by Richard Lacayo about Holl’s design. “… Beauty is an argument that doesn’t take no for an answer…” says in Time which I totally agree.
Adobe Architecture
1 state 5 days 1,500 miles I had a great time in New Mexico last week. It has such a rich history and culture. I will not bother you with every detail of my trip. Below is the general architectural highlight. You can also find photographs with more information in ArkitecTrue Photo Gallery.
Shade Hotel
Last week, my colleague, Larry Drasin, showed me an article in the Hospitality Design magazine about one of his designs “Shade Hotel” in Manhattan Beach, California. Shade is the first luxury boutique hotel in Manhattan Beach that is synonymous with casual California beach culture. The hotel has the residential feeling which is a very popular [...]
The Bloch Building
By day, light is reflected into galleries below. At night, gallery lights will glow softly through the mix of translucent and transparent glass panels, like Japanese lanterns illuminating the Sculpture Park. The interplay between the interior and exterior makes this one of the most captivating contemporary museum experiences since the opening of the Tate Modern, [...]
Seattle Public Library
I spent 4 hours in the Seattle Public Library that didn’t involve reading! It is a great building, every corner and every level has a different view. You never know what to expect when you turn a corner. The endless yellow escalator is outstanding, and the red administrative floors are breathtaking. Everything is red, the [...]
Not everything stays in Vegas
Fireworks go off seconds before the implosion of the Stardust hotel-casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. It was imploded to pave the way for Boyd Gaming Corp.’s $4.4 billion mega resort complex, Echelon Place. If it isn’t steel or concrete, it’s being removed from the shuttered Stardust hotel tower.
Meeting with former President Bill Clinton
“My days in this office are nearly through, but my days of service, I hope, are not. In the years ahead, I will never hold a position higher or a covenant more sacred than that of president of the United States. But there is no title I will wear more proudly than that of citizen.”
Santiago Calatrava is Hoping His 80 South Street Realized
With its peerless architectural design, the Eighty South Street tower stands conspicuous against the skyline of New York City. This 835-foot-tall residential building houses just ten ultra-exclusive townhouse condominiums, with a starting bid for each unit at US$ 29 million. Each townhouse, contained within its own individual cube with roughly 10,000 square feet of floor [...]
