Happy New Year everyone!
I have started my new year with new innovations in technology. The 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place January 7-10, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a record 1.85 million net square feet of exhibit space – the largest in show history – featuring more than 2,700 companies launching their latest innovations, the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology wrapped up four full days of technological innovation last Thursday. Major trends sweeping the show floor and defining the future of the consumer technology market included digital entertainment, HDTV, green technology and free trade.
Here are some of the hottest items that I liked in the show.
SANYO Xacti HD1000
World’s Smallest and Lightest Full 1080i High-Definition Camcorder, 10x Zoom Lens, 2.7″ Widescreen Display, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Compact Design. I like how small it is. They carefully thought through the ergonomics. It fits into your hand perfectly.

Sony Electronics Inc. - VAIO TZ-Series Notebook PC - Model: VGN-TZ150N/B
The VAIO TZ notebook is truly ultra-portable featuring an 11.1″ display with XBRITE LCD technology, durable carbon-fiber casing, long battery life and advanced wireless technologies in a compact, unique formfactor. It is the perfect laptop for travelers with its’ light weight. Design is very clean.

Motorola, Inc. - MOTOROKR S9 - Model: 98801N
MOTOROKR S9 integrates wireless mobile music and calls with unmatched lightweight design. Behind-the-head wearing style, preferred for top comfort and stability, combines with music and call selection from the headphones.

Casio America, Inc. - Pathfinder Watch - Model: PAW1300-1V
Casio’s slimmer Pathfinder PAW1300 is the ultimate outdoorsman watch. It is packed with features including Atomic Timekeeping Technology, Tough Solar Power, digital compass, altimeter, barometer and thermometer. I liked this watch for my husband as a birthday gift. He got an iTouch for my birthday, which I enjoy it a lot. I think I should return the favor. Don’t tell him!

Kensington - Kensington LiquidFM(TM) Deluxe for iPod-FM Transmitter - Model: 33424
Quick Seek(TM) finds the clearest station in seconds and RDS displays song title and artist name on your car stereo. ClearFM(TM) technology for superior sound.

Yoggie Security Systems Ltd. - Yoggie Pico
The Yoggie Pico(tm) is a USB key-sized Personal Security Computer with 13 security applications. It blocks Internet threats outside the PC and boosts PC performance by offloading the security software. It looks small, but it is powerful!

Dell Inc. - Dell Crystal
Crystal is a 22″ widescreen monitor that fuses inspiring design, technical innovation and practical functionality. Designed for the trendy pioneer, it makes a statement as an object of desire. It is a must have screen for 2008!

NAVIGON - NAVIGON 7100
A composite of handsome lines and graceful curves, the NAVIGON 7100 features a bold new approach to a superb navigation experience. GPS is everywhere! Who will add more features, who will come up with the coolest design, which one is lighter… The questions are endless, so are the options. This is the one I liked, and also got the “Best of Innovations Honoree award.
Waterfall Audio
This is the coolest, high tech way to listen music and watch your movies. The design is very clean and elegant. It is a French company, and trying to get into the US market. Good luck to them, and I will keep them in mind in my designs.

Flat screen TV’s are getting thinner and thinner. The prototypes I have seen are only 20mm thick, or should I say thin! They are all full HD which is 1080p. Not in the market yet, wait till 2009!
There are a lot more to cover such as touch screens, popular digital frames, which I don’t care much, cameras, bluetooth devices, etc, but that’s it for now. You can always check out the CES website for more information. See you in the convention next year!
