On March 15, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. will present Women in Architecture: Histories, Herstories, Reappraising the Legacy of American Architecture in honor of women’s history month. The discussion will tackle several topics, including recovering the lost histories of 20th-century architecture, creating criteria to evaluate architecture, and how women architects can conceive and preserve their work.

“Currently, women make up only 11 percent of AIA (American Institute of Architects) membership” note event organizers.

The event will be led by Gwendolyn Wright, professor in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University and the host of the PBS series History Detectives. Participants also include Cynthia Hammond, assistant professor of architectural history at Concordia University; and Susan Piedmont-Palladino, associate professor at Virginia Tech’s Washington / Alexandria Architecture Center and curator at the National Building Museum. Wanda Bubriski, director of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation, will serve as moderator.
