The Design Director is the linchpin of any high-end interior design firm. This esteemed role requires a multifaceted individual who can not only translate the Principal Designer’s vision into exceptional client outcomes but also manage the intricate details of the design process. The Design Director is responsible for overseeing all facets of the design process, including client communications, team management, and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) selections. Key Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in luxury interior design, preferably in New York
  • Proven experience in managing a team, vendor coordination, and project scheduling
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, studio designer, and Adobe Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
  • Excellent interior architectural drawing skills
  • A keen eye for high-end design and a thorough understanding of luxury vendors and furniture producers
  • Strong graphic presentation skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organized and able to implement systems for effective project management
  • Honest and integrity-driven with high personal values and ethics
  • Comfortable with taking action and making decisions when necessary
  • Strong leader with a positive and open attitude towards staff, team, and clients

The Design Director’s role involves consistently bringing fresh ideas to the team, maintaining a daily task list for assigned projects, and assisting project teams to ensure delays are documented. They are also responsible for leading intermediate designers, creating preliminary floor plans, furniture plans, mood boards, and budgets for new clients. The Design Director utilizes InDesign to create client presentations and attends and leads client presentations.

Manage job site coordination Attend and contribute to weekly coordination calls with contractors, architects, and installers
Source custom furniture and materials Create custom furniture drawings for vendors, visit workrooms, and review shop drawings
