The Gol Ghar, a towering structure with a distinctive conical roof, was a symbol of power and grandeur. Its construction, dating back to the 18th century, was a testament to the architectural prowess of the Maharaja Gulab Singh, the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. The structure was a focal point of the Mubarak Mandi complex, a sprawling complex of palaces, gardens, and other structures that served as the seat of the Maharaja’s court. The Gol Ghar’s significance extends beyond its architectural beauty. It served as a platform for cultural events, a place for royal gatherings, and a symbol of the Maharaja’s authority.

The MMJHS, however, chose to ignore this expert advice and proceeded with the restoration work on the back side. This resulted in the weakening of the backside wall, leading to a potential collapse of the entire structure. The consequences of this collapse could be catastrophic, affecting the entire heritage site and potentially endangering lives. The MMJHS’s actions are a clear violation of the Master Plan 2019 and a blatant disregard for expert advice. This reckless disregard for safety and heritage preservation has put the entire heritage site at risk.
