Yossapon Boonsom, founding director of landscape architecture firm Shma and co-founder of non-profit organizations Friends of the River (FOR) and we!park, will examine how design can spark urban transformation through green infrastructure. By showcasing successful green infrastructure projects, Yossapon will highlight the potential of design to address social and environmental challenges. The session will also feature a panel discussion, where the speakers will engage in a conversation about the role of design in shaping our environments. Representing Taiwan, Borden Tseng, director of Q-LAB Architects, will present his studio’s projects that integrate cultural narratives into public infrastructure. Borden’s work draws inspiration from local cultures and traditions, resulting in award-winning projects that not only reflect the cultural context but also contribute to the urban fabric. The award-winning Chudong Parking Structure, inspired by the Hakka paper umbrella, is a prime example of this approach. The second session, “Cultural Codes – The Language of Design in Asia,” focuses on the role of design in reflecting and reinterpreting cultural heritage and contemporary life. Thai designer Doonyapol Srichan, founder of PDM BRAND, will discuss his approach to blending everyday functionality with modern aesthetics and Thai craftsmanship. Doonyapol’s work showcases the beauty of everyday objects reimagined through a cultural lens. Thai graphic designer Manita Songserm will reflect on her experimental typography and distinctive visual language. Her poster for the exhibition Crossover II: The Nature of Relationships, which won the Best of the 2024 Golden Pin Design Award, is a prime example of her visual language. Manita will discuss her design process and how she uses visual elements to convey meaning and emotion. From Taiwan, Brian Liu, co-founder of Local Remote, will share his studio’s interdisciplinary branding and visual design projects. Brian’s studio has worked on key visuals for the 2022 Taiwan Design Expo and visual identity design for the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA). His work showcases the intersection of design and technology, highlighting the potential of design to drive innovation. The 2025 “Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon” is established by Taiwan’s Golden Pin Design Award, which was founded in 2015. Over the past nine years, the salon has toured 21 Asian cities, featuring more than 100 renowned design experts.
